A motor will flash if it has detected an obstruction while in operation. This can also happen if the door is binding or incorrect spring tension is on the door.
If your garage door motor sounds and looks like it's working but the door is not moving it could be in manual operation, re-engaging the manual release into automatic will solve the problem, if not it might need to be inspected by a professional.
This can happen if one of the lifting cables has come loose or snapped, another cause could be the door has jammed up in the tracking system. You will need to consult a garage door technician to have it safely repaired.
With all remotes they work on a frequency which transmits a signal, sometimes by pressing the button and not holding it will not allow the signal to transmit the distance required.
Another cause could be other wireless devices in the area causing interference or a faulty circuit/receiver card.
The remote control's battery may also require replacing if it has been in there for a while.
The garage door could be in the automatic position, pulling the emergency release cord will allow manual operation.
